Decorating your country front porch can be so much fun anytime of the year, but in the summertime you can really get creative and have fun with color! We show you how with before and after photos and six easy steps to create country porch decor you’ll be proud of.
Take a look at our porch BEFORE we added decor.
Needs a little inspiration, doesn’t it? Why let your porch languish when it could be a beautiful entry to your home and that extra relaxation space you need? This porch has all kinds of potential…let’s get started!
Step 1: Start with furniture that fits your budget
Let’s face it, most of us don’t have a ton of money to spend on expensive furniture to put outside. We recommend basic country style pieces that look great, like the Mainstays rockers from Walmart. A double rocker costs just over $100 and gives a nice clean look to your country porch decor. Find unique and inexpensive pieces at garage sales or flea markets, with the added benefit of authentic distressed finishes.
Step 2: Choose your color palette
Color is the key component to porch decoration. Porch décor is often dominated by seasonal colors, but summertime is the perfect opportunity to let the color flow! We chose ruby red with buffalo check pillows for our porch, but below we show how you can swap in any color or style of pillow and achieve the same look. Our farmhouse style pillows are perfect!
Step 3: Pick your door decoration
Decorate with a traditional wreath or branch out! You can have even have some fun with your wreath! Create a dramatic focal point with full, large wreath, combine two smaller wreaths, or add a picture to your door. Think through your overall goal: If you like to pull out a wreath or decoration year after year and have it look great, then invest in high quality florals and materials, however if you like change, feel free to buy something inexpensive and get a new look every year.
Step 4: Accent with a rug
Give your porch the homey look of an inside room with a rug. We chose an ultradurable black rug for its stylish clean look, durability and stain resistance. It’s even guaranteed not to hold stains! Summer can be wet and muddy, and if you have kids or pets an ultradurable rug is a necessity! Because we chose a strong color on our seat cushions, we downplayed our rug. If you skip the seat cushions, add stronger color through your rug as a great way to pull your country porch decor together.
Step 5: Add decorative lighting and wall accessories
If you have a covered porch, try a pendant light—with a nearby outlet and a ceiling hook, your options are wide open. Lanterns made for the outdoors, such as the one pictured, have built-in timers and lights that create an inviting entry to visitors. We are especially excited about the look of outdoor lighted trees because they come in a two sizes and look amazing outdoors or in!
Create a little bit of inviting country charm on your porch with signs, pictures, or vintage items. Don’t be afraid to bring pictures or board signs outside from your inside décor, especially where they can be protected from weather. We added some galvanized classic tin stars to pull together the overall Americana theme.
Step 6: Add an arrow and hanging sign
Arrow and signs in country decorating have such a classic look: once you have one, you will love it! They add an air of country charm, and they’re changeable with the season. You’ll soon see there are hanging signs for every season! We added red silk flowers to the galvanized heart hanging decor for extra pop.
